World Igbo Congress

2014 Convention

About the Convention

At the Banquet in Dallas 2013

BRIEF ON WORLD IGBO CONGRESS

World Igbo Congress is the apex Igbo organization in the Diaspora. Exactly 20 years ago, this organization was established in Houston, Texas as organ for the unity, dignity and welfare of the Igbo who at that time were and still are smacking from the impact of the Nigerian civil war. It was also established as an organ for the expression of the right of the Igbo to fair treatment of the Igbo in the committee of ethnic nationalities in Nigeria. We are pleased that the organization has now come full circle with its return to its place of birth to celebrate its anniversary during its 20th Annual Convention. This World Igbo Congress will be hosted by its “mid-wife” Igbo People’s Congress (IPC) Houston which is already in a frenzy to ensure that the convention will be a memorable one and also a platform for getting the attention of the all Diaspora Igbo including African Americans and Afro-Caribbeans as well as all friends of the Igbo. Our members are community, health and economic development practitioners from affiliates in most US metropolises, in the US and elsewhere. World Igbo Congress works in tandem with Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo to ensure that the interests of the Igbo are protected.

A Sustainable Development Agenda

The Convention will deal with some of the main implementation challenges related to the main targets recommended by the 2012 and 2013 convention proposals on strategic and sustainable development of Igbo land as well as empowerment of its people in the Diaspora. The theme is “Obi di n’otu Igbo Akwuru” (with unity of purpose, the Igbo will survive and make progress)
